Definition of -eth

-eth

suffix

  • Middle English suffix that forms the third person singular indicative of verbs

It means the same as he, she or it and to point out that the verb is talking about (he, she or it) and not something else.

Counterexample: "He writes he is not writing now" In this case, the suffix -eth is very useful, as it can indicate that (he) is still writing. If the sentence was: "He writeth he is not writing now" Now, it is clear that he is still writing, if someone is talking to someone else this can be very useful in conversations.
